Jason Kottle's Blogging World

This guy hasn't changed his hairstyle for the last ten years, however, he met his wife though his blog, which is also how he brings his food on the table. When asked about why he blogs, he gave an answer that makes me envious--Curiosity? Habit? Addiction? Don't want to get a real job? Probably all of the above. Is it a good thing when you can't tell the difference between work, play, an addiction, or a hobby?
Someone criticized him for monetizing his readers as eyeballs. But Jason claimed that he didnt write for advertisors on his blog.
There is nothing wrong with making money from blogging. I mean, why not? Jason is not responsible for anyone except for himself. In this information age, everything is commercialized. You can hardly find some pure art or self-disclosure. If you want to find them, then Internet is probably a wrong place to go.

  1. Well, it is interesting that int he early days of blogging a number of bloggers maintained a strictly "anti-commercial," "non-professional" ethic. Blogging was something they did for free and offered to their readers for free. Obviously, this is no longer the case with the most popular blogs, which tend to be written by people who approach them as a full time job.
